Backward regions to get Rs 5,800 crore

New Delhi, Feb 29: The Backward Regions Grant Fund was given Rs 5,800 crore in the current year, Finance Minister P Chidambaram today announced. While presenting the Budget proposals for the year 2008-09 in the Lok Sabha today, Mr Chidambaram proposed to keep the allocation for the Backward Regions Grant Fund for the next year at the same level. He added that nearly 45 per cent of the amount is likely to be allocated to the States of Bihar, Orissa and Uttar Pradesh.
