Sikkim cut off following Darjeeling bandh
Gangtok, Feb 28 (UNI) Sikkim today remained cut off from the rest of the country following the indefinite bandh called by the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) in the neighbouring Darjeeling hills.
Official reports received here stated that so far no vehicles from Sikkim had ventured out to ply along National Highway 31A to reach Siliguri or vice versa.
Police from the border town of Rangpo informed that till 0930 hours today there had been no vehicular movement from Sikkim.
NH 31A is the only road link to Sikkim and a major stretch of this road falls along Kalimpong sub-division where GJM workers have set up road blocks to enforce the bandh.
The private taxi stand and government bus stand in Gangtok were a deserted look.
Tourists stranded in Sikkim had already moved out during the 12-hour relaxation in the bandh given yesterday.
