Premature baby survives fall from train after accidental birth

Ahmedabad, Feb 28 (UNI) A premature baby born in the toilet of a speeding train slipped on to the track and survived.

The crying baby, which fell on Tuesday near Ambaliasan station, approximately 50 km from here, attracted the attention of some passers-by who informed railway authorities. The baby was recovered from the tracks safely.

Bhuri Kalbi (33), who was seven months pregnant, was travelling along with her in-laws from Swaroopganj to Ahmedabad when she went to the toilet to relieve herself at night when she accidentally gave birth to the baby.

The foetus fell from the hole on the pebbled track below without her knowledge. After Kalbi realised about the baby slipping off the train, she raised an alarm following which a search was launched.

The baby girl was finally reunited with the family.

The newborn was admitted to a hospital in Ahmedabad, where her condition was stated to be stable, Dr Raj Kumar, a paeditician at the Rajasthan Hospital told UNI.

She, however, has been kept on an incubator as she is two months premature and is responding to the treatment very well, the doctor added.
