Minister stresses on more posts at border check-post

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 28 (UNI) Kerala Finance Minister T M Thomas Issac today said more posts were needed at the Walayar check-post on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border and also adequate manpower, as it was difficult to function with skeleton staff.

The minister while speaking in the assembly said ''The proposal will come up in the next cabinet. We are trying to combine the commercial taxes, excise and motor vehicles departments so that the vehicles are not stranded at the check-post''.

''Now a vehicle after checking at the motor vehicles check-post goes to the excise post and then to the commercial post. By combining functions of all the three departments, there will be a smooth flow of vehicles through the check-post,'' he added.

Explaining this, Mr Issac said now the vehicles after getting clearance from the the motor vehicles post had to wait at the bay for the excise check and then allowed to move for the commercial taxes check post.

When all the three departments function cohesively, the delay could be averted, the minister said while replying to the discussion on Final Supplementary Demands for State Government grants for 2007-08, which was later passed and the assembly adjourned for the day.

The assembly will meet on March six for Budget presentation.
