Masses mandate will be respected: Musharraf

Islamabad, Feb 28 : Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has said that people's mandate has to be respected, and no one will be allowed come in the way of a smooth transition to democracy.

According to the Daily Times, Musharraf conveyed this message to former Punjab Chief Minister Mian Manzoor Wattoo. He said that parties that have registered a majority in the February 18 elections would definitely form the Government.

Reportedly many other important issues like reasons for the Pakistan Muslim League- Quaid's (PML-Q) defeat and the post-poll situation in the country were also discussed during the meeting.

Musharraf also assured Wattoo that he is ready to work with the new Government and expressed the hope that the parties forming the next Government would work together for the betterment of the country, besides curbing terrorism.

Wattoo told reporters after the meeting that he would support the formation of a national Government on an issue-to-issue basis.

He further added that independent Member of Parliaments (MP) would also give support the Government.
