Manipur Assembly continues Budget Session

Imphal, Feb 28 (UNI) The Manipur Assembly today continued discussion and voting on the budget of different departments.

The House had yesterday passed the budget of three departments - land revenue, stamps and registration and district administration - amounting to Rs 241,56,80,000.

State Works Minister K Ranjit informed the House that some engineers and contractors were misusing the names of militants to get some benefits.

He also informed that as announced by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh the four laning work on National Highway 39 was on from Maram at Senapati district to North AOC, Imphal.

State Law Minister Th Debendra said efforts were on to expedile the functioning of district courts.

Raising the issue of alleged illegal collection of money from transporters on NH 53 at Keithelmanbi by Assam Rifles and at Makru and Barak by CRPF personnel, O Joy of the Manipur Peoples Party demanded a probe.

Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh said reports of collection of money by 32 AR, posted at Nongchup Keithelmanbi and CRPF, posted along NH 53, were coming in and the state government was trying to find out the facts.
