India welcomes agreement between Nepal Govt, Madhesis
New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) India today welcomed the agreement reached between the Nepal government and the United Madhesi Democratic Front, saying it would pave the way for elections to Constituent Assembly as scheduled.
''It is our hope that all parties would honour and implement this agreement and their previous understandings,'' an External Affairs Ministry spokesman said here.
The spokesman said it was for the people of Nepal to choose their representatives, their future and the manner in which they wish to be governed.
He said as always, India would continue to extend support in every way possible to achieve the goal of a democratic, stable and prosperous Nepal.
Elections to the Constituent Assembly will be held on April 10 to rewrite the country's new Constitution and ratify Parliament decision to abolish monarchy.
