Fishermen arrested for trespassing
Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu Feb 28 (UNI) The Sri Lankan Navy arrested twentyfive Indian fishermen off Gulf of Mannar, late last night.
Official sources said here today the fishermen, hailing from Thoothur coastal hamlet in this district had ventured into the sea for fishing in two mechanised fishing boats yesterday.
A Lankan naval ship had arrested the fishermen for trespassing into Sri Lanka territorial waters, late last night. Tension prevailed at the fishing hamlets in the district, when the news reached here.
When contacted by UNI, a senior official of the State Fisheries Department said the Tamil Nadu Government was urged to take steps for the repatriation of fishermen.
