Cong alleges BJP showing disrespect to Governor
Bhopal, Feb 28 (UNI) The opposition Congress members today arraigned the BJP government in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly for allegedly showing disrespect to Governor Balram Jakhar with BJP member Kailash Chawla deliberately absenting from the house to initiate debate on the vote of thanks on the Governor's address.
The treasury bench was taken for a ride when Mr Chawla was not present when Speaker Ishwardas Rohani called him to start the debate on the resolution moved by the former on February 25.
Former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh (Cong) raising a point of order alleged that the BJP government's disrespect to the Governor was evident from the fact Mr Chawla, who was compelled to move the resolution, abstained from taking part in the debate to express lack of faith in government.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra affirmed that the treasury bench had full faith in the Governor and Mr Chawla abstained after intimating the house.
Later when Mr Digvijay Singh was speaking on the resolution, Mr Chawla entered the house and tendered his apology for arriving late due to ill-health. ''I have moved the vote of thanks on my own and not under pressure'', he added.
