Bajrang Dal holds protests against controversial history book

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) The Bajrang Dal today held a demonstration against the alleged-derogatory remarks-against lord Ram made in a history book prescribed for B A II year students of the Delhi University.

Demanding that the remarks be removed, the Bajrang Dal and other sister organisations under the Shiksha Bachao Andolan, threatened to launch nationwide protest on the issue.

Senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi said the present Government has been routinely targeting Hindutva ideals. ''Our schools and colleges are like temples and by attacking or Gods, an atmosphere of hate is being attempted to be created.

They are testing our level of tolerance.'' BJP's student's wing, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), activists had created a furore on the campus on Monday in protest against the remarks against Rama in an essay by M S Ramanujam, a part of the compilation prescribed for BA IInd year students.

They also targeted Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's daughter, Dr Upinder Singh, saying she was behind the compilation.

Mr V K Malhotra said the DU administration had to scrap such material immediately.

The demonstrators gathered at Jantar Mantar and marched towards the Parliament.

The leaders later handed over a memorandum through officials to the President.
