Andhra University, BARC ink 3 MoUs

Visakhapatnam, Feb 28: The Andhra University has entered into three Memorandums of Understanding with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Trombay, for conducting various surveys, here.

The pacts were inked by Director, Health Safety and Environment Group, BARC, H S Kushwaha and University Registrar Prof P Vijayaprakash last night, in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof L Venugopal Reddy.

Elaborating on the pacts, Mr Vijayaprakash said the University would conduct a baseline survey on the quality of air, water and soil, radioactivity and aquatic biota in and around the project site of the new BARC campus here as it had expertise in environmental sampling and analysis for various conventional and radioactive constituents in various matrices of environment.

The second MoU was for a baseline demographic survey to be conducted by the varsity around the new BARC campus here for its proposed research centre.

The third project would emphasise on marine biological monitoring - a baseline study of coastal marine environment near the new BARC campus, he said.
