'Dhoom movie inspiration behind our crime'

Malappuram, Kerala, Feb 28: Police arrested four people, including a woman, in connection with the sensational robbery at South Malabar Gramin Bank (SMGB) at Chelembra in this district.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) K S Jangpangi told reporters here that the probe team recovered 58 kg gold and Rs 5.51 lakh in cash concealed in the residence of one of the arrested.

Altogether 80.199 kg of gold and Rs 25 lakh were looted in a daring robbery that came to light on December 31, 2007.

The accused were identified as Joseph alias Jayson of Kottayam, Ragesh alias Shibu of Thrissur, Radhakrishan of Koyilandi in Kozhikode district and his wife Kanakeswari.

Joseph, who was present at the press meet, said he was 'inspired' to commit the crime after viewing the Bollywood movie ''Dhoom.'' Joseph was allegedly involved in many other crimes.

Preliminary investigation had revealed that the accused had sold the remaining 22 kg gold at Bangalore, Coimbatore and Chennai, the ADGP added.

They will be produced before Parappanangadi First Class Judicial Magistrate later in the day, he said.
