Villagers picket Legislative Assembly

Puducherry, Feb 27 (UNI) A few people from Uthiravahinipet near Villianur here today picketed the Legislative Assembly and shouted slogans against Health Minisiter E Valsaraj to protest against the inaction of the Health Department to contain the viral fever spreading in the village.

Police held talks with the villagers and allowed their representatives to meet Chief Minister N Rangasamy and hold talks.

The Chief Minister assured immediate steps following which they called off their agitation.

Meanwhile, the CPI volunteers today staged a dharna in front of the Ariyankuppam commune panchayat demanding immediate eviction of encroachers from the samba pond in their area.

CPI national council member R Viswanathan and State Secretary Na Ra Kalainathan participated in the agitation.
