Sales tax inspector in crime branch net in Kashmir
Srinagar, Feb 27 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir police Crime Branch (CB) has presented a challan in a local court against a Sales Tax inspector, who was appointed fraudulently through Service Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB) four years ago.
A senior officer of the CB said a tip-off was received that one Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh was appointed as the Sales Tax inspector through SSRB under Resident of Backward Area (RBA) category, when he did not belong to any backward area.
He said in the investigation it was found that Sheikh, a resident of Gokhama Kunzer Tangmarg, had presented a RBA certificate at the time of applying for the post through SSRB.
Sheikh was appointed as inspector and subsequently joined the department.
However, during further investigation it was found that Gokhama Kunzer was not a backward area.
The accused had regularly drawn salary for a period of around four years.
He has subjected the state exchequer to a wrongful loss of Rs 3.86 lakh which has been received by him on account of salary.
The challan was produced before the court of City Munsif, Srinagar, the offices said.
