One more soldier buried under avalanche in Kashmir

Srinagar Feb 27 (UNI) One more soldier was killed when he was buried under an avalanche in Machil sector, official sources said today.

They said rifleman Bhopinder Singh of 9 JAK rifles was buried under a huge avalanche which came down from a hill top at Budy Beir in Machil sector in north Kashmir.

However, before rescue teams could rescue him the soldier died, they said, adding the body was recovered last evening.

More than a dozen soldiers and about dozen porters were killed in avalanches in Uri, Machil and Keran sectors since January this year. The bodies of soldiers and porters killed in Uri sector were recovered after more than a month.

Official sources said about 15 people were killed and 60 others wounded after the heaviest snowfall in Kashmir valley in 20 years in the second week of this month.
