Addressing a 'Halla Bol Kisan rally' here, Union minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal said '' it is unfortunate that the BSP government is not interested in solving the farmer's problem.'' '' Ms Mayawati neither cares to know the problems of the farmers, nor does she show interest to tackle them,'' he maintained, while claiming that the UPA government at the Centre had done everything to give succor to the farmers.

Union minister of State for Agricutlture Kanti Lal Bhuria, narrating in detail about the central schemes for the farmers in UP, said '' the Centre always promotes any cause raised by the state for the farmers...we had always cooperated with UP, but the state government had shown little interest.'' UP Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi, in her speech, called on the farmers to launch a decisive agitation against the government to take their rights.

''Even after several assurances, the government was not paying crores of rupees as cane dues to the farmers,'' she charged.

Ms Joshi said farmers were the top priority of the UPA government at the Centre, which could do anything to end their problems.

Several local leaders of the state particulary from the western parts of the state addressed the meeting, which was attended by large number of Congress supporters.

This was the second such Kishan rally by the UP Congress. The first one was held at Padrauna in Kushinagar district on February 19 last.
