Two shot dead in Manipur

Imphal, Feb 26 (UNI) Two suspected underground cadres were shot dead by a combined force of Imphal East Police and personnel of 32 Assam Rifles in an encounter at Kongba Nongthombam Leikai Imphal East last night.

Police identified the two as Thangjam Suranjoy and Yengkhom Daman. Police said the two came in a car and fired at a police team who killed the two in retaliation. One 9 mm pistol and a hand grenade were recovered.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has assured to provide ex-gratia of Rs one lakh to the kins of two persons shot dead last evening in a separate incident at Imphal East. The two were shot dead by unknown armed persons and were identified as Hussain Ahmad and Jitherudin.
