Setting College Fees At 20% Of Operating Costs
New Delhi, Feb 25 (UNI) Experts are studying fee structure for self financing universities and colleges following suggestions that students be charged up to 20 per cent of operating costs, Parliament was informed today.
The information was furnished by Minister of State for Human Resource Development D Purandeswari in a written reply in Lok Sabha.
She said the University Grants Commission had constituted a committee to prepare draft regulations for admission and fee structure in self financing universities and colleges.
The Planning Commission in the XI Plan document has suggested that income-wise most university students come from top 10 per cent of the population and would be able to pay fees amounting to 20 per cent of the operating cost of general higher education, she said.
The Commission document suggested gradually increasing fee levels in existing institutions but implementing new norms in new institutions from the outset, she added.
