Reliance strikes eighth gas discovery in Mahanadi basin

Mumbai, Feb 26 (UNI) Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) today announced another gas strike in the NEC-Mahanadi offshore basin, off the Orissa coast in the Bay of Bengal.

This is the eighth discovery in the block. RIL had earlier struck six consecutive commercial discoveries in the shallow water block, covering an area of 10,755 sq km in water depts ranging between 20 metre to 600 metres, RIL said in a release here.

Development plan in RILs earlier discoveries in this block has been submitted to the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) for approval.

RIL was awarded exploration rights in the first round of National Exploration Licencing Policy. RIL holds 90 per cent participating interest (PI) and NIKO Ltd. holds 10 per cent of PI in the block.
