Mob torche houses after motorcyclist mows down minor
Malda, Feb 26 (UNI) A mob today looted and torched two houses, one of which was sheltering a motorcyclist who had accidently knocked down and killed an eight-year-old boy in Milkimohanpur village last night.
The incident took place in Malda in West Bengal when after the accident the motorcyclist took shelter in the house of some local people he knew. When the news about the accident spread, a mob attacked the particular house and one other, looted everything it could lay hand on and set them abalze.
Soon the fire spread to two adjoining houses.
Englishbazar Superintendent of Police said, ''The villagers have once again taken the law in their own hands.
If this goes on, we cannot do our work properly.'' Malda fire brigade had pressed two tenders in service to douse the flames.
An FIR was lodged by the residents of these houses.
The SP said his department would do whatever necessary to bring the accused to book.
Yesterday also, bodies of two suspected theives were recovered from Sadaipur village under Englishbazar police station of this district.
Preliminary reports said the two were lynched by villagers on Sunday under the pretext that they were cycle thieves.
