Maoist called bandh evokes poor response

Purulia, Feb 26 (UNI) Barring a few pockets in tribal dominated districts, the 96-hour Bengal bandh that began today, called by the Maoists, evoked poor response.

There was no report of any untoward incident so far.

The bandh was called to protest the arrest of CPI (Maoist) state secretary Himadri Sen Roy, alias Somen, in the North 24 Parganas last week.

A few posters were seen in tribal dominated districts of Purulia and Bankura demanding release of their leader Somen, who is now in police custody.

Police, however, tightened the security measures in some Maoist dominated areas.
