Manipur Assembly begins discussions on budget

Imphal, Feb 26 (UNI) Manipur Assembly today started discussing the general budget department-wise from today.

About five departments would be discussed today.

Education Minister L Jayanta during a discussion had informed that a total of 1040 fake appointments were detected in the education department and they were sacked from service.

Chief Minister O Ibobi said action will be taken up against the contractors who had withdrawn bills before starting the work. Ibobi also also appealed to the people to support the developmental activities taken up by the government.

He said adequate compensation will be paid to those affected by the construction of National Institute of Technology and expansion of the airport at Imphal.

The people affected by the two projects have been protesting on a daily basis demanding that the government should construct the airport and the NIT at a different location as large numbers of people would be affected.

Meanwhile, security was beefed up today in and around the Assembly complex in view of repeated attempts by those opposing the projects to enter the Assembly complex.
