Lawyers protest Orissa CM's visit; Two injured

Berhampur,Feb 26 (UNI) Two advocates, including former President of the Ganjam Bar Association Sudhansu Sekher Panda, sustained minor injury after a scuffle with the police during their demonstration against Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here today.

The lawyers demonstrated near the main gate of the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here during Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's visit to inaugurate the Berhampur edition of a language daily.

It all started when over one hundred advocates tried to enter the MKCG Medical College and Hospital to hand over a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding withdrawal of the C R Pal Commission to look into the demands for establishment of permanent bench of Orissa high court.

They instead demanded that the proposal be forwarded to the Centre for setting up of a Permanent Bench of the Orissa High court at Berhampur.

The agitating lawyers raised slogans against the Chief Minister and demanded that the Permanent Bench of Orissa High Court be set up at Berhampur.

Meanwhile, a report from Rourkela said the lawyers of Western Orissa have decided to boycott the courts for three days from tomorrow demanding setting up of a permanent bench of High court in their region.
