Jytovihar university closed sine die
Sambalpur, Feb 26 (UNI) The Sambalpur university authorities have closed the university sine die in the wake of a massive students agitation to protest the alleged gangrape of a university student on February 23.
The authorities declared late last night after the students of the unversity here blocked roads and National Highway at different places, destroyed car windshields and ransacked the administrative block of the university.
The students were protesting against the callousness of the hostel warden and superintendent demanding exemplary action against the accused.
This morning the students attempted to attack the residential quarter of the Vice Chancellor and closed down several colleges and blocked the road at several places.
Sambalpur Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar said the four youths - Kapil Das, Aman, Annu and Munir - were arrested and forwarded to court yesterday in connection with the case. The court later sent them to jail custody.
The SP said he would request the fast track court to dispose of the case at the earliest so that justice could be meted out to the victim.
The first year MCA girl has been admitted to the V S S Medical College and Hospital and her condition was improving, he added.
The medical test will be conducted only with the girl's her consent, Medical Superintendent Dr Akshya Nayak said.
Meanwhile, Sambalpur University SC/ST Student Union leader Nihal Singh demanded the dismissal of all university staff responsible for the incident.
The University sources said the girl was found in critical and unconscious condition near a nursing home at Sakhipara on February 24. Local people brought her to the district headquarters hospital in critical condition.
The girl was allegedly gangraped near the ''deer park'' and was dropped near the nursing home by the accused.
