Include fruits and flowers in crop insurance scheme: Committee

Shimla, Feb 26 (UNI) A high-level central committee today advised the Himachal Pradesh Government to send its proposal of including apples, citrus fruits and flowers under the crop insurance scheme at the earliest.

The committee, which was here to assess the possibilities of including apples, citrus fruits and flowers under the insurance scheme, advised the Himachal Government to send its proposal to the Centre after visiting the state recently.

The team visited the state after Horticulture Minister Narinder Bragta had urged Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar to extend crop insurance scheme in Himachal.

All the officers of the department have been directed to fulfill all the formalities at the earliest so that economy of the farmers and horticulturists was strengthen.
