HRD to set up Engg, Mgt facilties in NE states

Shillong, Feb 26 (UNI) To tackle the problem of imbalances in access to higher education in Northeastern region, the Human Resource Development ministry has sanctioned Engineering and Management faculty in one Central University in each state.

An official release said here today that such faculty has also been sanctioned to one state university in those states, where there is no Central University.

The ministry has allocated over Rs 100 crore for the universities of NE region from the additional Rs 153 crore provided by the Planning Commission under the National Common Minimum Programme (NCMP).

During the year 2007-08, the Centre has earmarked Rs 239.23 crore for Central Universities in the NE.
