HAPP Tiruchirapalli to develop weapons for Navy, Air Force

Tiruchirapalli, Feb 26 (UNI) The Heavy Alloy Penetrator Project (HAPP) in Tiruchirapalli will develop weapons for the Navy and the Indian Air Force.

Talking to newspersons here today, HAPP Senior General Manager S Ravi said the Defence Ministry had enstrusted the HAPP with developing new weapons for the Indian Navy, which included anti-submarine naval rockets.

Presently, HAPP manufactured Fin Stabilised Armour Piercing Discading Sabot (FSAPDS) for its major client, the Indian Army, he informed.

Mr Ravi said the HAPP was in the process of developing weapons, capable of destroying multiple targets.

He added the organisation would also develop weapons or gadgets for the Indian Air Force.

Already, it was supplying Balancing Mass for Helicopters produced by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

He claimed the HAPP had a plant to process Tungsten with a capacity of approximately 400 tonne per annum.

HAPP was planning collaborative efforts with Defence Metallurgic Research Laboratories, Hyderabad to make more futuristic weapons, he said adding that they would collaborate with Israeli military industries to manufacture Sabots.
