Five on 8-day police remand for loot and murder

Barrackpore, Feb 26 (UNI) At least six people, accused of looting gold jewellery and killing the wife of a gold trader in Kanchrapara under Beejpur police station five days back, were today taken into custody on an eight-day remand.

Superintendent of Police, North 24 Parganas, Supratim Sarkar said, ''A special investigation team captured the criminals from Ghola in New Barrackpore under North 24 Parganas and Chakdah of Haringhata area in Nadia district and seized arms and ammunitions.

He said that there were more people involved in the case and that they would soon be booked as raids at different places continued on the basis of the information revealed during investigation. He added that they have been assisted by the CID.

The police said that all the arrested were hardcore criminals wanted for various charges, including murder, loot and arms trade.

Mr Sarkar also said that the victim was yet to tell police the exact amount of jewellery and cash looted.

Initially, Mr Das told police that at least 500 gm of gold was looted, the SP said in response to a questioner.

He also said the post mortem report was available but the forensic test report was yet to arrive.
