First foreign flight takes off from Karippur
Kozhikode, Feb 26 (UNI) Sharjah-based Air Arbia (AA) launched its operations in Calicut-Sharjah sector, the first foreign airline to take-off from Karippur International Airport near here today.
Talking to newspersons here, AA Chief Executive Officer Athil Ali said the company offered passage in the sector for Rs 3777, excluding taxes.
He said AA would operate thrice a week. The flight departing Sharjah at 0830 hrs will land here at 1340 hrs and would take off at 1425 hrs, he added.
Mr Ali said the company proposed to make it a daily flight from May this year.
The maiden flight to Karippur, carrying a high-level team of officials from Sharjah, landed here this evening.
Dubai-based Emirates Airline also proposed to launch its non-stop service from Karippur to Dubai, six times a week, from July this year, EA officials said in New Delhi yesterday.
Kozhikode would be the third city to be included in the non-stop Emirates flights from Dubai.
The airline introduced services to Kochi in 2002 and to Thiruvananthapuram in 2006.
Razal Khaima, Oman, Qatar and Saudi airlines had proposed to introduce flights to Karippur from different destinations soon.
