Crude oil March 08 contract up by 0.15 pc at MCX

Mumbai, Feb 26 (UNI) Crude oil contract for March 2008 went up by 0.15 per cent at Rs 3,938 per barrel and natural gas contract for the same period by 0.77 per cent at Rs 367.50 per mmBTU today on Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) of India, netting in a total turnover of Rs 5,942.19 crore with 79,279 trades.

The composite index of metals, energy and ago-commodities was down by 0.21 per cent at 2,660.28 points. MCX Metal and agri indices fell, while energy edged up, MCX release said.

Major commodity futures on February 26, 2008 sustained marginal losses. In bullion, gold contract for December 2008 shed 1.08 per cent at Rs 12,095 per 10 grams, while silver September 08 contract was down by 0.92 per cent at Rs 23,320 per kg. The white metal December 08 contract went up fractionally by 0.03 per cent at Rs 23,606 per kg, while silver August 08 contract remained unchanged.

All metal groups sought lower levels bar tin March 08 that edged up by 0.14 per cent at Rs 709.25 per kg. Nickel April 08 contract shed 1.34 per cent at Rs 1,138.50 per kg.

In energy, crude oil futures witnessed a mixed trend with May 08 and July 08 contracts receding, while June 08 contract advancing 0.55 per cent at Rs 3,860 per barrel.

All natural gas contracts improved even as March 08 contract gained 0.77 per cent at Rs 367.50 per mmBTU. All CFI futures remained unchanged at their previous levels.

Chana, pepper, turmeric, guarseed and jute contracts either gained marginally or remained unchanged at previous levels.

Gold April 08 contract clocked a volume of 19,129 kg, the release added.
