Court rejects Hasina's bail prayer in barge-mount power plant case

Dhaka, Feb 26 (UNI) A local court today rejected Awami League President Sheikh Hasina's bail prayer in the barge-mount power plant corruption case and postponed hearing on charge framing in the case until March 3.

Judge Firoz Alam at Special Court-1 deferred the hearing after the defence filed a time petition. Earlier on February 19, the court deferred the hearing as detained former power and energy secretary and one of the accused, Toufiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, was not produced before the court.

The former secretary was shown arrested in another case after he was granted bail in the barge-mount power plant case and secured release order, The Daily Star reported.

Before that, the court deferred the hearing three times. The first deferment followed a time petition from the defence and the second time the prosecution sought time.

The court delayed the hearing for the third time as Ms Hasina could not be produced before the court due to illness.
