Geneva, Feb.25 : The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates there is a shortage of over four million health workers globally, with one million needed in Africa alone.

To address this critical issue, the WHO is organising the six-day First Global Forum on Human Resources for Health at a resort in Kampala, Uganda.

Experts from the government, the health sector, academia and non-governmental organizations will come together to discuss key issues such as migration, education and financing, and next steps to resolve the global health workforce crisis at the Speke Resort from March 2 to 7. The meeting is expected to produce a global action plan that sets out how to address the problem. The Forum is being convened by the Global Health Workforce Alliance, a partnership whose secretariat is provided by the WHO.

The key sessions of the conference are open to the media.
