Tribal students demand more seats

Imphal, Feb 25 (UNI) The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has demanded more reservation for tribals both for admission to and jobs at Manipur University.

If its demands were not met, it would pull out all the tribal students from the institution from March 1 next.

Meanwhile, the Manipur University Tribal Students' Union has demanded amendment of certain acts governing the University failing which it would support the ATSUM demand.

It demanded that the University should amend the Manipur University Act 2005 and incorporate a special provision to ensure 32.2 percent reservation for the Scheduled Tribes at the levels of both teaching and non-teaching staff.

MUTSU pointed out that the tribal candidates exceeded general candidates when one studies UGC/NET results every year.
