PML-N, PPP don't possess the power to impeach Musharraf: US official

Lahore, Feb 25 : United States National Intelligence (NI) Director John Micheal McConnell has said that the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) do not have enough power to impeach President Pervez Musharraf.

According to the Constitution of Pakistan, a two-thirds majority in parliament, comprising of the National Assembly and Senate, is necessary to impeach the President.

In an interview to CNN, McConnell described Musharraf as a key ally of the United States, and said "The US has been able to kill or capture more of Al Qaeda leadership in partnership with Pakistan than with anyone else."

He admitted that the results of the February 18 general elections had changed the political landscape in that nuclear-armed country, and that Washington would be closely monitoring the post-election situation in Pakistan.
