Pak Senate Opposition to axe amended PEMRA laws

Islamabad, Feb 25 : The combined opposition in the Pakistan Senate is set to give its first jolt to President Pervez Musharraf by disapproving two Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) laws that were amended by him.

The session begins today to discuss a three-point agenda seeking a debate on the current political and law and order situation, bomb blasts and target killings, increasing prices and shortage of essential items and the opposition's resolutions for the disapproval of PEMRA laws that placed restrictions on the media.

The inaugural session would be adjourned after offering fateha for Sarwar Khan Kakar, who was a member of the 100-member house, as per parliamentary tradition, the Daily Times reported.
