Oppn scuttling irrigation projects: Aruna
Hyderabad, Feb 25 (UNI) Congress Associate member D K Aruna today alleged that the main Opposition TDP was putting hurdles in the implementation of development projects, including the prestigious 'Jalayagnam' initiative, of the Congress Government in Andhra Pradesh only for ''political survival''.
'Jalayagnam' was in fact a ''dhana yagnam'' for the benefit of large number of farmers, prices of whose lands had gone up significantly following assured irrigation, she said while taking part in the debate on the budget. The TDP would not have any political future when the development projects were completed, she claimed.
The TDP should come forward to support the sincere efforts of the Congress Government to develop the state, realising that it would get a ''bad name'' if it hindered the projects, Ms Aruna said.
CPI(M) members took strong objection when, referring to her visit to West Bengal, she said many people slept on the pavements there unlike in Andhra Pradesh, where the Congress Government had planned to construct houses for all poor people under INDIRAMMA scheme.
