Municipal staff call off strike
Panaji, Feb 25 (UNI) City Municipal Corporation workers have called off their four-day-old strike on recieving assurance of Chief Minister Digambar Kamat to initiate action against erring policemen in February 19 incident related to attack on Panjim police station.
People heaved a sigh of relief after the workers started cleaning the heaps of garbage piled up for the last four days following the strike to protest the assault of city mayor Tony Rodrigues on February 19.
They were demanding transfer and suspension of the policemen concerned and inquiry into the incident.
The situation got aggravated with the closure of Panjim Market complex, besides shops and establishments, in a show the solidarity to the mayor.
