M F Hussain's creation on Safdar Hashmi fetches one million-dollar

Kolkata, Feb 25 (UNI) Celebrated painter Maqbul Fida Hussain's creation on Safdar Hashmi fetched a record one million-dollar price at the debut auction from Emami Chiesel Art, which came to a close here today.

At the country's first art auction, conducted simultaneously online and on the floor, Tayeb Mehta's 'Kali Hi' fetched Rs 4.1 crore, while J Swaminathan's 'Bird and Mountain' fetched Rs 2 crore.

The evening saw the sales touch a total of Rs 24 crore, with most of the 79 paintings of altogether 70 artists being sold.

The works of maestros like Nandalal Bose, Amrita Sher Gill, F N Souza and S H Raza were also on sale.
