K'taka: Fire in Chamundi hills destroys lands
Mysore, Feb 25: A major fire that broke out in the Chamundi hills near here destroyed large tracts of forest lands last night.
According to forest officers, the fire which broke out near the Uttanahalli-Nanjangud road on the Western ridge of the Chamundi hills, destroyed 20 acres of lands. The fire which broke out around 5 pm yesterday, could not be doused even after three hours of constant effort by 30 fire perssonels. No loss of property and animals was reported in the incident. The fire originated from the spot near the Adichunchanagiri Mutt. The grass nearby caught fire and later started spreading over an area of 20 acres.
Fire tenders were pressed into service to put out the blaze.
