Inquiry report on Adivasi violence in Guwahati submitted
Guwahati, Feb 25 (UNI) The Justice (Retd) Manisana Singh Commission probing the November 24 violence during an Adivasi rally in Guwahati today submitted its report.
The report, submitted in record time for a committee probing such a major incident in the state's history, placed the report before Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at his residence.
The report, sources in the Commission revealed, had indicated that the entire incident was a planned conspiracy with a militant outfit linked to it. Besides, it had pointed to security lapses on part of the district administration, the sources said.
About 70 people were examined by the Commission, including the Adivasi girl, who was stripped and assaulted in the mob violence.
Residents of Beltola area of the city, where the violence took place, as well as Adivasi community members, besides district and police officials, deposed before the Commission.
Though not a single witness had turned up for the first date of hearing on December seven, the people later appeared before the Commission, seeking justice.
The Commission was probing the November 24 violence in Beltola area of Guwahati, when Adivasi processionists had clashed with the local residents when a rally by the former turned violent.
One person was killed and more than 250 people were hurt.
