Five killed, 27 injured in road mishaps in TN

Tirunelveli, Feb 25: Five people, including three members of a family, were killed and 27 injured in two separate road accidents in Tamil Nadu.

Police said three members of a family were killed when their motorcycle was hit by a speeding town bus near Alwarkurichi village, near here last night. The deceased were identified as A Kannan, his wife K Revathy and their four-year-old son K Hariharan. They were going to their native Kottaivilaipatti village, when the bus coming in the opposite direction hit the motorcyle, killing them on the spot.

The bodies were removed to the Government Hospital at Ambasamudram, police said.

In another road accident, two people, including a bus driver were killed and 27 injured when a State-owned city bus dashed against a roadside tree at Kalipetti village on the Tiruchirapalli-Thuraiyur State Highway yesterday, a report from Tiruchirapalli said.

The bus was proceeding to Thuraiyur from Samayapuram, when the mishap occurred.

The deceased were driver Jayapal and a passenger Venkatesh.

While 16 of the injured were admitted to the Government hospital here, 11 were undergoing treatment at Government hospital in Thuraiyur, police said.
