CPI, CPI(M), BJP stage walkout in AP Assembly

Hyderabad, Feb 25 (UNI) The opposition CPI(M) and the BJP today staged a walkout in the Assembly, protesting ''poor'' maintenance of social welfare hostels in Andhra Pradesh.

The CPI and CPI(M) also staged a walkout again during the Question Hour, protesting the state government's failure to devolve more powers to Panchayats.

Earlier, on the issue of social welfare hostels, the CPI(M) and the BJP members staged walkout after they were dissatisfied with Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's statement during the Question Hour that the infrastructure in the hostels would be improved well before the next academic year.

Later, CPI(M) Floor Leader N Narasimaiah alleged that''hell-like'' condition was prevailing in the social welfare hostels.

The budgetary allocation for the SCs, STs, BCs and Minorities had not been increased in commensurate with their population in the budget, he alleged.

Joining the CPI(M), the two BJP members also staged a walkout to protest deplorable condition of social welfare hostels.
