Train services affected as empty rakes derail

Chennai, Feb 24 (UNI) Three empty rakes of a train derailed near the Basin Bridge yard when the train was being shunted back from Chennai Central Railway station today, affecting train services.

Dadar Express, Navjivan Express and Coromandel Express, scheduled to arrive at Central station, were diverted to Chennai Egmore railway station.

Similarly, Mumbai Mail, Cheran Express and Howrah Express, scheduled to leave from Central tonight, were diverted and would leave from Chennai Egmore.

The authorities announced cancellation of two trains-- Shatabdi Express and Yercaud Express.

Railway officials said restoration works would take at least five to six hours.
