Seven held in mob violence case in Bihar

Hajipur (Bihar), Feb 24: Seven people have been arrested after a violent mob took the law into their own hands here on Saturday. Earlier on Saturday, President Pratibha Patil also reacted to the mob fury in Bihar, and said that the increase in cases of mob violence was due to failure of the justice delivery system.

Patil reacted to the incident at an All India Seminar on Judicial Reforms organised by the Confederation of Indian Bar in New Delhi on Saturday after reports of a fight between two students over a mobile phone turned into a mob fury in Hajipur. One of the students stabbed the other and was later dragged to the streets by a mob and beaten mercilessly.

He had been taken to police custody, but the angry crowd dragged him out and thrashed him in full public view. The police just watched helplessly. His condition is critical.
