Left Front will not be divided under any circumstances: Biman Basu
Barrackore, Feb 24 (UNI) Left Front (LF) chairman in West Bengal Biman Basu today claimed that none of the LF constituents in the state would be parting ways with the Front before the coming Panchayat elections.
Talking to mediapersons near here at Belgharia after attending the Jute Workers Union Conference, the LF chairman and CPI(M) state secretary expressed confidence that under any circumstances, the LF would not be divided and it would sweep the seventh Panchayat elections in the state.
Earlier during his address, Mr Basu said about 7,000 village Panchayat seats were curtailed this time, leaving 41,534 seats intact.
While 15.48 per cent of seats were curtailed, a little over three per cent seats of Panchayat Samities and about five per cent of Zilla Parishad had been increased, he added.
Mr Basu called upon the jute workers to support the LF in the coming Panchayat elections.
He also claimed that unless the LF ruled the state, the jute industry would not be able to survive.
He alleged that industrialists producing synthetic materials were conspiring to destroy the jute industry.
He further alleged that the Opposition, including the Congress and Trinamool Congress, besides the Maoist ultras and naxalite groups, had been trying to disturb the peaceful Panchayat elections process in the state.
