New Delhi, Feb 24 (UNI) The Delhi unit of Communist Party of India (CPI) today said the party congress will review the performance of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government and would make all out efforts to usher in a Left and democratic set up at the Centre.
Presenting the draft political resolution of the party's 20th Congress, National Council party secretary Shahmeem Faizee said the UPA Government was dithering on people's issues such as unorganised workers' social security bill and women's reservation bill.
More than 200 delegates from all over the state took part in 21st two-day state conference which was inaugurated by CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan at the conclusion of a two-day rally yesterday.
Delhi state secretary Amarjeet Kaur, presenting the report on party acitivities in Delhi, criticised the sharp jump in prices of daily items such as vegetables, wheat, pulses and rice due to which the common man's grocery bill was up by more than 25 per cent. In addition, she said the party favoured exploring options to cut import and excise duties and cut in sales tax so as not to further burden the common man.
The conference elected a 63-member state council and decided to undertake a campaign to expose the failures of the UPA Government.
