Bus accident in Assam kills 12
Sonapur (Assam), Feb 24 : At least twelve people were killed and four others injured after a bus fell into a roadside pond early this morning in Sonapur area of Assam.
"This accident took place around 4:30 am. The bus started from Silapathar, and was going to Guwahati. Till now, we have recovered around 12 bodies," said C. K. Bhuyan, Sub Divisional Officer, Kamrup district.
According to official reports, the bus carrying 19 passengers plunged into a stream of water as the driver lost control of the vehicle while crossing a bridge in Sonapur, 25 kilometres from Guwahati.
Four passengers, including the caretaker of the bus, survived the accident.
The injured have been admitted to a local city hospital.
Local police authorities and paramilitary Border Security Forces (BSF) were deployed for the rescue operations.
