16 killed in road mishaps in AP

Hyderabad, Feb 24: As many as 16 people were killed and one person was injured in separate road accidents in Adilabad and Krishna districts of Andhra Pradesh today.

Police said 12 people were killed on the spot when the jeep in which they were travelling collided with a lorry near Bandaregadi village in Adilabad district.

The jeep was proceeding towards Muktyal and the chilli-laden lorry was on its way to Adilabad from Nirmal.

The lorry driver fled from the spot.

Police personnel were busy removing the bodies from the accident spot. The victims were yet to be identified.

In the other mishap, four people, including a woman, were killed and one person was injured when an autorickshaw in which they were travelling collided head-on with a lorry at Ramanagudem village in Krishna district.

Police said the lorry was on its way to Nuzividu from Vijayawada and the auto was bound for Vattigadipadu from Nuzividu when the mishap occurred.

The deceased were identified as T Sambaiah (26), auto driver T Sundara Rao (22), P Basha Khan (65) and P Hasina (50).

The injured was admitted to the Vijayawada Government Hospital.

The lorry driver was at large.
