MP villagers pledge to forsake liquor
Morena, MP, Feb 23 (UNI) Denizens of a village in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district, where crime rate was escalating due to excess consumption of liquor, have taken a pledge unanimously not to take alcohol anymore.
In the presence of police officers, the residents of Bisangpur village vowed in a meeting of Panchayat's Gram Raksha Samiti that they would not consume the alcohol in or outside the village and they would also fine a person found violating this decision. It was pointed out in the meeting, held on February 15, that the social evil forced many villagers to indulge in crimes, including smuggling of illegal liquor.
Villagers took this pledge on the advice of police officers, who were optimistic that the crime rate would come down after the step taken.
