Aizawl, Feb 23 (UNI) Mizoram voters' lists and polling stations would be adjusted in accordance with the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission, state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Lalmalsawma said here today.

As per the delimitation order, the number of polling stations in Aizawl district would be increased to 249, Mr Lalmalsawma said, adding that the Election Commission (EC) had issued instructions to ensure that each polling station in the rural and urban areas had not more than 1,000 and 12,000 voters respectively.

The move came in a bid to reduce time consumed by polling process.

The CEO added that polling stations would be set up in such a way that no voter had to walk more than two km. Each village, having not less than 300 voters, must have a polling station.

Since the electoral rolls have to be adjusted as per the Assembly delimitation, Mizoram will have to use two types of rolls, the Final Electoral Rolls, 2008, and that in accordance with the Delimitation order.

''As the Mizoram Assembly elections, 2008, and General Elections, 2009, are ahead, election officials are working in full swing to complete the scrutiny of voters' lists on time,'' the CEO said.
